PRESS RELEASE: CTU to strengthen supervision of AI starting in September, new unit to be led by Anna Hroudová

Prague, 31 August 2026 – The Czech Telecommunication Office is launching an AI supervision unit on 1 September. The new unit will focus on building the expertise and procedural background for the future exercise of the CTU’s supervisory powers under the European Artificial Intelligence Act. The unit will be led by Anna Hroudová, who comes to the CTU from the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, where she also worked on AI. The unit will be complemented by three additional experts with experience in legal, technological or analytics fields, among others.                              

“Our aim is to build supervision of AI that is professional, understandable and, above all, actionable. AI Act brings an entirely new type of regulation that links the law with very fast-evolving technologies. One of our first priorities will therefore be to set supervision to focus on real risks while giving firms and other organisations as much certainty as possible about what is expected of them. We want to be a partner that not only enforces the rules, but also to help put them into practice in a comprehensible way," said the new leader Anna Hroudová.  

Once the relevant legislation is approved, the new unit will ensure the exercise of the CTU’s supervisory powers in the field of artificial intelligence and will gradually expand the expertise needed for the practical implementation of the AI Act. The CTU has been preparing for this new role for some time, including through a team of experts dedicated to preparing the supervisory framework and necessary processes.           

Anna Hroudová will be primarily responsible for setting the vision, goals and priorities of the unit and implementing them into the practical functioning of supervision. Her role will be to connect the legal, technological and public perspectives on AI regulation, participate in key decisions and represent the CTU in international cooperation.

As part of the implementation of the AI Act, CTU has been designated as one of the market surveillance authorities. It shall cooperate with other state institutions concerned in setting up the supervisory system. The new unit thus represents another important step in expanding the CTU’s expertise in digital technologies and in regulating the digital environment.
