Artificial Intelligence

Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 of the European Parliament and of the Council (AI Act) sets out rules for the development, placing on the market, operation and use of artificial intelligence systems in the EU.

The Artificial Intelligence Act (hereinafter referred to as the "AIA") is directly applicable in all EU Member States, but requires national adaptation laws for institutional and sanctioning mechanisms.

The purpose of the AIA is​:

  • Ensure a uniform legal framework for AI in the EU and thereby support the functioning of the internal market.
  • Promote trustworthy, safe and ethical AI that is in line with EU values.
  • Protection of fundamental rights, health, security, democracy, the rule of law and the environment.
  • Prevention from harmful effects of AI and promotion of innovation and technological development.
