European sanctions list has been expanded to include additional entities (incl. Voice of Europe)

CTU informs that Council Regulation (EU) 2024/1428 amending Regulation (EU) No 833/2014 concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia's actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine was published on 17 May 2024.

This regulation added Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiiskaya Gazeta to Annex XV and thus to the European sanctions list.

Subsequently, Council Implementing Decision (SZBP) 2024/1770 was adopted on 24 June 2024.

The inclusion of those entities on the European sanctions list triggers an obligation under Article 2f of Regulation 833/2014, as amended, as directly applicable, to ensure that the dissemination of content by the legal persons, entities or bodies listed in Annex XV to this Regulation is prohibited. The obliged entities include, among others, undertakings in electronic communications.

Council Regulation (EU) 2024/1428 was set to take effect on 25 June 2024.
