PRESS RELEASE: Annual Report for 2022: The average mobile data consumption is 7 GB per month, price of data decreased

Prague, 3 May 2023 - CTU has published its Annual Report for 2022, which shows, for example, that the total volume of mobile data transferred in 2022 reached 926 PB, according to the Office's estimates, and its year-on-year growth can be estimated at 60%.  The average monthly data consumption per data SIM reached 7 GB - up from 4.6 GB in the previous year. The number of active SIM cards at the end of 2022 exceeded 15.2 million, of which the share of SIM cards using flat-rate tariffs was approximately 75%. The price per actual minute called and per 1 MB of data transferred continued to fall.

The long-term trend of a decline in the average price per actual minute called continued in 2022, although the rate of decline slowed in 2022. In the first half of the year, there was a decrease of around 0.6% to 0.73 Kč/min compared to the average for the whole of 2021. The decline in the average price per SMS sent stopped in 2019 and the average price has been rising since then. The cause can be seen in the declining use of this service, which is gradually being displaced by the use of communication apps. Over the period under review, from 2011 to mid-2022, the average unit price per MB of data (excluding fixed LTE) fell by CZK 0.40, or 93%, while over the last 5.5 years (between 2016 and mid-2022) it has fallen by CZK 0.13, or more than 81%, to CZK 0.03/MB.

In 2022, CTU estimates that the total number of Internet access services at a fixed location will reach 4.025 million, i.e. an increase of 2.2% compared to 2021. The number of accesses per 100 inhabitants increased to 38.2 (compared to 37.4 in 2021).
