PRESS RELEASE: CTU consults on subsidy call on 5G repeaters in the trains

Prague, 1. March 2024 – CTU launched a public consultation on the draft subsidy call „Technical Devices for 5G in Railway Coaches“. Public consultation is to be found here: https://ctu.gov.cz/vyzva-k-uplatneni-pripominek-k-navrhu-dotacni-vyzvy-technicke-prostredky-pro-5g-v-zeleznicnich (only in CZ). The subsidy call is intended to help improve the availability and quality of mobile services also inside train coaches.

The call will lead to the fitting of passenger railway vehicles operating mainly on TEN-T rail corridors with repeaters for 5G mobile signal coverage ('signal repeater') or passive walls (permeable windows). The aim is to promote the availability of 5G networks on TEN-T rail corridors so that main train corridors have good coverage of mobile voice and data services even inside coaches.

"For the Czech Telecommunication Office, this is the first subsidy call to be prepared on the basis of a delegation agreement between us and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. We believe that we will fulfil our new role as the call's coordinator with honour and that the prepared call will be of real benefit to rail passengers", said Marek Ebert, CTU Council Chairman.

The subsidy call takes place within the framework of the National Recovery Plan, a strategic document on the basis of which the Czech Republic is applying for a financial contribution from the European Recovery and Resilience Facility to implement measures and reforms to help recover from the effects of the pandemic and to support investment in the ecological and digital transformation of the Czech economy.

Further information on the upcoming call, including a presentation from the last workshop, is published here: https://ctu.gov.cz/narodni-plan-obnovy
