PRESS RELEASE: CTU calls attention to technical changes in mobile operators’ 2G/GSM networks

Prague, 17 April 2020 – During the nights of 20th and 21st and the nights of 21st and 22nd April, the mobile operators will undertake technical changes in their networks related to the change of radio frequencies used in the 900 MHz band. The aim is to create technical conditions for effective use of radio frequencies, deploy the latest technologies and improve services for customers. The preparation has been conducted in cooperation with CTU and all three operators (T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2) since 2018.

The mobile operators closely coordinate realisation of this measure not only between each other, but also with the bodies of the Integrated Rescue System. The tuning will be done during night to avoid any significant negative effect on customers’ services. In case of emergency, the operators recommend (in the press release published by the Association of Mobile Network Operators) to use mainly the single European emergency number 112 during these hours.
