RSPG published vision for 6G and consults on D2D

RSPG adopted a draft Opinion on satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity, which has been accepted for public consultation. The document identifies four areas of application for D2D satellite networks to complement services provided by terrestrial networks, including recommendations for measures that should be taken to ensure service provision. The scenarios considered include direct smartphone communication over satellite. The document responds, inter alia, to the dynamic technological developments and expectations for the deployment of new telecommunications services. Based on current knowledge, the RSPG report was adopted in its final form, providing a vision for future 6th Generation (6G) networks, which are expected to emerge after 2030. The document outlines implementation strategies for 6G in the long term, including frequency needs.
