Radio service (low-power transmitters)

You need to sound a social event by FM broadcasting using low-power radio transmitters in the VHF radio band, e.g. to ensure the operation of a drive-in cinema.

The procedure varies depending on the requested duration of the authorisation.

  1. In the case of validity periods of up to 15 days, frequencies may be based on a short-term authorisation for the use of radio frequencies. The procedure is set out in Section 25 of the Electronic Communications Act and further information is provided on the page Applying for a short-term authorisation. In this case, no licence or approval from the Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting (RRTV) is required. A short-term authorisation cannot be extended nor reissued for the same purpose;
  2. In the case of validity periods exceeding 15 days based on an individual authorisation for the use of radio frequencies pursuant to Sections 17 and 18 of the Electronic Communications Act. The consent of the Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting (RRTV) or the radio broadcasting licence is not required for a validity period of up to 2 months.

For both options, the application shall include data about the applicant and the technical parameters of the frequency (Form 13F can be used). The applicant chooses the radio frequency. The application must include a frequency compatibility calculation with the proposed parameters with the air navigation service facilities. The calculation is carried out by the authorised institution, which is the Czech Metrology Institute - TESTCOM Praha, Hvožďanská 3, 148 00 Prague 4, more information Ing. Prchlík tel. 271 192 306, e-mail: mprchlik@cmi.cz. In the case of a small distance from the state border, i.e. about 30 km, international coordination within the radio service with foreign administrations, which is provided by CTU, might also be needed.

It is sufficient to submit an application for a short-term authorisation one to two weeks before the expected date of operation, and an application for an individual authorisation at least one month before the requested date of start of the use of radio frequencies, taking into account the above information regarding coordination with the aeronautical radionavigation service or international coordination.

Information on the payment and the amount of the administrative fee can be found on the page Fees for individual and short-term authorisations for the use of radio frequencies.
